Myadvice is go for the 7! Yes, absolutely still worth buying. The only difference between series 7 & 8 are crash detection and cycle tracking. If these features are important to you then yes. Being a male the only difference for me would be crash detection.

Yes as long as the cellular is enabled on your watch. Just GPS non-cellular I believe you get calls/texts if your phone is within range right. Correct, and when it’s connected to Wi-Fi, the watch will still get iMessage, FaceTime Audio calls, and SMS via iCloud. For me, it’s worth it. I always go for a walk, run, and sometimes a quick errand.
AppleWatch 3 LTE also has double the storage of the non LTE. 16GB vs 8GB. All version 4 has 16GB, so LTE support is only difference here.
